Chellika Andrew is currently a freshman at Southeastern University where she is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree with a pre-med specialization. interest in pre-med. Chellika was born in New York but moved immediately to the Caribbean where she was raised for most of her childhood. After living in the Caribbean for many years, she moved back to New York where she obtained her high school diploma.
Chellika’s mother worked hard to provide for her family. She instilled core values like hard work and determination into her children and wanted them to strive to do and be the best they could be. For example, her mom grew up in the Caribbean, she had a rough childhood and wanted to make sure that the things that she could not do, she would be able to. [he instilled this value in her daughter's life and mind.
This maternal model motivated Chellika in high school to make honor roll and join the Key club where she received perfect attendance. The Key club gave her the opportunity to volunteer with children. Chellika was struck by the the smiles of the children. One particular child, her little sister touched her sympathies. So although she knew from an early age she wanted to become a Pediatrician, her key club work sparked her to stay on that path. She understands that a life of healing children would fulfill Chellika’s spirit and make her mother proud. Upon her entrance into Southeastern University's , Biology (Pre-Med) program her major courses and professors showed that she knew that this would [are starting to] mold her into becoming to doctor that she dreamed of being. In the future, Chellika hopes to practice pediatric medicine. Practicing pediatric medicine will allow her to put a smile back on a sick child’s face and to keep a smile on their parent’s face.
