Professional Biography

Kiah Ferrell, a freshman at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, is a member of the softball team and majoring in exercise science and minoring in coaching. With her degree, she wants to become a physician’s assistant with a concentration in sports medicine. She chose this university because when she walked on campus she fell in love with the school and the atmosphere and wanted to be involved in a successful softball program and also felt like the coach would push her to be the best that she could be.

            Throughout her time in Indiana, Kiah has been closely involved in the sports community with playing softball, volleyball, and basketball all four years of high school. Through these sports activities, Kiah developed a close relationship with the athletic trainer at her high school. This professional relationship showed her the day to day activities of the trainer and ultimately influenced her to pursue a career in sports medicine. Seeing how the trainer really helped the athletes to get back to doing what they loved, inspired her chase after her dream of helping future generations of athletes. This is the way she felt she could most effectively give back to the community that helped her immensely to become the athlete and woman she is today.

            Before attending Southeastern, Kiah grew up in Plainfield, Indiana just outside of Indianapolis. This is where she attended high school and received a varsity letter in softball, volleyball and basketball along with numerous academic awards and scholarships. Even though Kiah loves all three sports, softball was her true passion. Aside from schooling and sports, she enjoys crafting, coaching, and tutoring young people. These interest provide balance to a busy schedule and a sense of fulfillment from being such a well-rounded young woman.

            Being a three sport athlete in high school has taught Kiah how to be passionate, hard-working, and determined in everything she attempts. These personal experiences aided her to maximize her time at Southeastern. It is this dedication, focus, and healing that she would like to pass down to the next wave of student athletes. Kiahs future internships, practicums, and athletic experiences will also help her accomplish her goal of being a physician’s assistant, the way she hopes the positively affect the youth of tomorrow.
